Jon Gabrielle
The Founder of Cognitive Performance Programming, Jon’s journey began in Manhattan, New York, where he was born in 1960. Son of the 17-Year NHL veteran and four time Stanley Cup champion, Eddie Shack, his early days were filled with countless hours of both playing and coaching many sports. By the age of 12, he had already organized, scheduled, and coached a neighborhood sandlot football team. As his youth progressed, he added baseball and hockey to his coaching resume. Upon entering the Physical Education program at the State University of N.Y. in Cortland, he became acquainted with the psychological side of sports and what professional and Olympic athletes were beginning to understand and implement. And although he played both football and hockey in college, he also coached the club hockey team and continued to hone his craft and first love: Coaching. Sport Psychology research was blossoming and this sports-oriented University was the perfect setting for education, research, and practical application while earning his B.A.
After graduation, Jon began his coaching career as an assistant NCAA hockey coach, first at his Alma Mater, Cortland, and then continued on with stops at national powers; Oswego St. and Union College. He also worked with the Lacrosse team as the strength & conditioning coach while at Union. By the early 90’s Jon found his way to Europe where he studied at the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland for two years, while coaching hockey. Upon his arrival in Florida in the mid 90’s and with a dearth of ice hockey rinks, Jon immediately immersed himself in his longtime love of tennis. To his modest beginnings as the assistant high school coach at Riverview in Sarasota, to club directorships, and then on to the prestigious Gomez Tennis Academy. His knowledge of the sport grew to where he coached two different players on the WTA tour.
Today, after a lifetime pursuit of making players great, Jon works with tennis players of all ages including highly ranked juniors to veteran Gold Ball winners. After almost 50 years of coaching experience in a wide range of sports, he is bringing to you - the high performance athlete, the chance to not just talk about the mental game but to finally do something about it.
